The Instrument Workshop |
A considerable proportion of our large collection of early instruments is represented by instruments which we have constructed in our workshop. Our reconstructions are based on the best evidence currently available. For many of the sixteenth and seventeenth century instruments, there are surviving examples in European museums which can be studied, and there is a fair amount of documentary evidence. Earlier instruments rely on illustrations, odd treatises and the constructional experience gained from work on later models. Many of the instruments we make are destined for our own collection, but we also make instruments for other people. The photo on the right shows the result of a recent commission for medieval instruments for Birmingham Conservatoire, comprising a psaltery, two symphonies, a rebec and bow, and a timbrel. The list of instruments we currently offer is as follows : |

Delivery - We have to add delivery at cost to these prices, because something like a hurdy-gurdy needs one hell of a carrier pigeon, and they eat seed like there's no tomorrow. Delivery charges vary depending on where you live, so please contact us for a quote and payment details. Other instruments - Please enquire - we'll give you a quote on most stringy things except runner beans. |
